Dr Hannah Cross is a locally trained forensic psychiatrist who completes comprehensive psychiatric reports for court.

Dr Cross holds a law degree and has completed her advanced speciality training in forensic psychiatry. This has not only given her a comprehensive understanding of the legal and medical systems, but how these intersect. She currently works within the public and private forensic sectors.

About Forensic Psychiatry

  • To become a psychiatrist, a person must complete a general medical degree before choosing to specialise. This requires further specialty training (including advanced training in the sub-specialty of forensic psychiatry), which is overseen by the Royal Australian College of Psychiatry (RANZCP). Once a person has completed their training time and various assessments, they are granted Fellowship to the College. Dr Cross has been a Fellow of the RANZCP since 2022.

  • Forensic work sits at the nexus of psychiatry and law. It is a specialised discipline that requires an understanding of the justice system, risk evaluation, and legal framework. In many instances, specialised reports are required as part of a person’s legal proceedings that evaluate and explain the significance of mental health issues. Dr Cross is skilled at communicating clearly, both in written reports and when giving evidence. She has an approachable interview style and prioritises preparation.
